The Big and Medium Trophies contain an American tank featuring an unmanned turret and autoloader optimized for firing from cover.
Developed in the late 1970s, the Teledyne AGS prototype was created under a U.S. Army program to develop an air-deployable light tank. Unveiled in 1981, the vehicle from Teledyne Continental Motors distinguished itself from competitors with the most radical and forward-thinking technical solutions of its time. The chassis was a highly mobile tracked platform of proprietary design, featuring a front-mounted engine-transmission compartment and an unmanned gun mount. Initially planned around a 75 mm cannon, the tank was re-armed during development with a more powerful 105 mm cannon paired with an autoloader, capable of engaging contemporary Soviet armor. Protective armor was designed to be composite, offering defense against 23 mm projectiles from the frontal arc and against heavy machine-gun fire from the sides.
Refinements to the prototype continued until 1991, when the military ultimately rejected the AGS program. The project subsequently evolved into an "expeditionary tank" concept aimed at the export market; however, this venture also failed to materialize. Today, the sole surviving Teledyne AGS prototype remains in open storage at a Teledyne facility in the United States.
Compact, fast, and built to strike from cover or shelter behind a sturdier teammate – meet the TCM AGS, a unique light tank arriving at Rank XIII of the US tech tree in the upcoming War Thunder Mobile update!
The AGS brings several impressive advantages to the battlefield. Speed comes first: the tracked chassis reaches 80 km/h, allowing it to overcome obstacles and seize key positions ahead of the enemy. Its defining feature, however, is the 105 mm cannon housed in an unmanned turret.
The gun was engineered for minimal recoil impulse, improving both accuracy and target acquisition speed. An eight-round autoloader ensures a high rate of fire, while the ammunition selection covers HEAT, HESH, smoke shells, and two types of APFSDS rounds.
Best of all, the low profile and unmanned turret allow the crew to engage targets without endangering your crew; a hit may knock out the gun, but the vehicle and crew remain intact.
The AGS's main drawback is, predictably, low survivability. The hull can withstand small-caliber autocannon fire from the front, but the densely packed crew layout means a single tank shell to the hull is often enough to knock it out entirely.
With its combination of high mobility and strong firepower, the AGS thrives in active combat. It can flank, capture points, set up sniper ambushes, or provide fire support from behind allied tanks on the second line. This agile and dangerous machine is sure to find its fans among War Thunder Mobile commanders!
The Premium variant is an extra tank for your hangar! The premium tank maintains the same performance as the standard variant, though it comes in a unique camouflage. With this premium tank you’ll be able to enjoy faster Silver Lion and Research Point gains, and earn some Golden Eagles in your battles.
