[Coming Soon] USS Seawolf: The Steel Deep Hunter

The Big and Medium trophies contain an American nuclear-powered missile submarine with a substantial oxygen supply.

Historical Note

The Seawolf-class nuclear attack submarines were developed in the United States during the 1980s in response to the growing strength of Soviet submarine forces in the late Cold War. They were powered by a highly capable nuclear propulsion plant that allowed for exceptional underwater speed. Their armament consisted of torpedoes and cruise missiles, all launched through torpedo tubes. A defining feature of the class was a dramatic reduction in acoustic signature, achieved through sound-absorbing hull coatings, enhanced machinery isolation, and an optimized hydrodynamic design.

However, these exceptional capabilities came at a staggering cost. Building a single submarine reached roughly $3 billion. As a result, only three boats were commissioned between 1997 and 2005 instead of the planned 29: Seawolf (SSN-21), Connecticut (SSN-22), and Jimmy Carter (SSN-23). By the time Jimmy Carter entered service, the U.S. Navy had already shifted its focus to the smaller, more cost-effective, multi-role Virginia-class submarines, which went on to form the backbone of the fleet for decades.

USS Seawolf (Rank VI)

Brief Analysis

  • Strengths: Equipped with guided Harpoon missiles and torpedoes. Strong underwater speed and maneuverability. Large oxygen reserves enable extended submerged operations.
  • Weaknesses: Low surface speed with limited maneuverability while surfaced.
  • Battle Role: A torpedo and missile-armed submarine designed for long-duration submersion and surprise attacks.

In battle

Introducing a new American nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine coming soon in a War Thunder Mobile update. Meet the USS Seawolf.

The USS Seawolf is a compact nuclear-powered attack submarine. Its propulsion system offers two key advantages: an exceptionally large oxygen supply, which enables extended submerged operations, and a high maximum speed. The submarine is armed with 533-mm Mk 48 torpedoes and submarine-launched Harpoon anti-ship missiles, both fired from its torpedo tubes.

A nuclear submarine is the ideal hunter of the deep. With exceptional endurance, the captain of the USS Seawolf can operate effectively both alone and alongside allies. Strike from unexpected angles or use friendly forces as cover for precise missile attacks. And do not forget your torpedoes. They are decisive in close-quarters combat.

Remain vigilant. A submarine’s primary vulnerability is its low survivability on the surface. When the USS Seawolf surfaces, it loses the exceptional handling it has underwater. Stay alert, maintain situational awareness at all times, and do not allow yourself to be caught off guard. Good hunting, Sea Wolves.

Premium version of the USS Seawolf (Rank VI)

In the Ship Campaign, only one ship can be taken into battle. Because of this, the Premium version of any ship is not a separate unit, but it completely replaces the standard “gray” version. After obtaining the premium version, the blueprints for the standard version of the ship will disappear from the store and trophies, and the ship itself will become unavailable in trophies and jackpots.

Differences between the Premium and Standard versions:

  • the ability to get gold after a battle, according to the daily limit;
  • unique premium camouflage;
  • fully unlocked upgrades in the Arsenal;
  • the ship gets the maximum crew level immediately.

Premium version of the vehicle:

  • As a jackpot or as a random reward when attempting to open the Big Trophy.
  • By reaching the top-10 in the relevant Leaderboard.
  • From the Collector's Trophy after adding the vehicle to this trophy type;
  • In Special Offers.

Standard version of the vehicle:

  • As a jackpot or as a random reward when attempting to open the Medium Trophy.
  • Order vehicles for Silver Lions after collecting 1,000 blueprints.

Ways to get blueprints:

  • From the Medium Trophy: 700 pcs in the guaranteed reward, or 10 to 100 pcs per attempt.
  • From the Big Trophy: 700 pcs in the guaranteed reward, or 80 to 200 pcs per attempt.
  • In the in-game store: purchase for Silver Lions a Folder with a number of blueprints (even after the season ends).
  • In special offers.

*Vehicle specifications and camouflages are still work in progress and may differ on release.

The USS Seawolf (Rank VI) can be obtained in War Thunder Mobile (WTM) from Medium or Big Trophies in the Ship Campaign with the start of the new Season.
