[Coming Soon] Pr.956 destroyer: armed to the teeth!

Historical Note

In the second half of the 1970s, with the advent of the AK-100 and AK-130 artillery systems, it became possible to create new multi-purpose ships with missile and artillery weapons, which were developed under Project 956. The lead ship of the series, Sovremenny, was built in Leningrad and entered service in 1980. These destroyers were designed to engage surface targets, serve as an air defense shield for naval formations, provide fire support for amphibious assaults, and conduct patrols. Their armament included Moskit anti-ship missiles, powerful AK-130 automatic 130 mm guns, and anti-submarine weapons, including a Ka-27 helicopter.

A total of 17 Project 956 destroyers were built between 1980 and 1994. These ships were the last Soviet destroyers to be equipped with powerful artillery weapons. Several modernized destroyers were sold to China.

Soviet Pr.956 destroyers are known as some of the most powerful in the world in terms of their combined artillery and missile armament. Meet the latest addition to the Soviet fleet, the Pr.956 destroyer with the new Moskit anti-ship missiles!

Unlike most missile ships, Pr.956 has full-fledged and very powerful artillery weapons! Two dual barrel AK-130 130 mm guns fire in automatic mode. This is a formidable weapon, dangerous both to other missile ships and to lightly armored targets such as light cruisers. For close combat, Pr.956 is also armed with torpedoes in two twin 533 mm torpedo tubes.

Let's get to the most important part — the missiles! The Moskit anti-ship missiles, new to our game, will be the most dangerous and effective weapons of Pr.956. These are supersonic missiles with a massive warhead. In terms of damage, they are comparable to the American Harpoon missiles, but their speed is much higher.

The second type of missile weaponry will be the 9M38 missiles. They are launched from two M-22 Uragan launchers. These missiles cause less damage, but they perfectly supplement the powerful Moskit missiles. To protect against other missile launchers, the Pr.956 destroyer is equipped with an electronic countermeasures system – the missile interception.

The Pr.956 has very good speed characteristics and is quite maneuverable. Since the destroyer's survivability is low, the commander must constantly move from cover to cover. Deal massive damage to the enemy with missile weapons, and if necessary, engage rapid-fire artillery!
