Commanders! 🚩 From June 27th to July 3rd, 2025 (ends at 07:00 GMT), tank mode fans will be able to get a bargain seasonal set with a new Al-Khalid-I platoon. Fans of naval battles will enjoy a battleship RN Duilio with a fantastic discount. And those who can't live without the sky, will be able to replenish their hangars with a J7W1 fighter!
The development of the Al-Khalid main battle tank began in 1990 as a joint project between Pakistan and China, based on the Chinese Type 90-II. Pakistan sought to create a modern tank adapted to local climatic conditions and the needs of the army. After ten years of testing and refinement, the tank was accepted into service in 2001 under the designation Al-Khalid. The vehicle was equipped with a Ukrainian 6TD-2 diesel engine with a power output of 1,200 hp, a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an automatic loader, and a modern fire control system with a thermal imager. The upgraded version of the Al-Khalid-I tank is equipped with an improved FCS, and the FY-2 ERA is more rationally placed, including on external mounts.
The Chinese-designed Pakistani main battle tank Al-Khalid-I combines the heritage of Soviet tank building with some very interesting modern features. Both familiar and new, this MBT is set to become the leader of China's new platoon.
The appearance and armament of the tank may seem familiar to all fans of the “Eastern” school of tank design. But is this impression really true? The tank is armed with a traditional 125 mm caliber gun. Modern electronics are used in the fire control system. The tank's ammunition load includes several interesting types of shells, including HE-VT and powerful APFSDS, which rival the best shells in the game in terms of armor penetration! The gun is fed from a large carousel-type automatic loader, which ensures excellent fire rate during any battle, even the most intense ones.
There is a pleasant surprise under the hood: a new diesel engine and its own transmission give the tank excellent driving characteristics and solve one of the most annoying problems of tanks with Soviet roots – low reverse speed. The Al-Khalid-I accelerates instantly, maneuvers briskly, and reaches speeds of almost 80 km/h when moving forward and about 35 km/h when moving backward.
The protection is also impressive. The complex armor scheme of the hull and turret, using polymer fillers, is complemented by Chinese FY-2 ERA, which rationally covers the vital areas of the tank and increases its survivability when fired upon by anti-tank missiles and HEAT rounds.
The awesome Al-Khalid-I isn't going into battle alone. Here come the other vehicles in the platoon!
Another versatile fighter is the ZTZ99-III main battle tank. In many ways, this vehicle is comparable in performance to the leader of the platoon, but its reverse speed is very low. However, its ammunition load now includes highly effective tandem ATGMs.
The modern IFV of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the ZBD04A, with a combat module from the Russian BMP-3 with a 100 mm gun-ATGM launcher and a 30 mm automatic cannon. An ideal recon vehicle!
The platoon's SPAAG is based on the German Gepard concept: a tracked chassis and a pair of fast-firing 35 mm automatic cannons. It shoots down low-flying aircraft and tears lightly armored opponents into pieces on the ground!
The battleship RN Caio Duilio, the second ship of the Andrea Doria class, was laid down in February 1912 and entered service in May 1915. It saw little action in World War I. During the interwar period, the ship performed secondary tasks: she supported the intervention in Izmir, participated in the bombing of Fiume, and the blockade of Corfu. In 1925, she suffered a serious accident — the detonation of ammo in the holedeck, after which she was repaired for a long time. In 1937–1940, Duilio underwent extensive modernization: it received 320 mm guns, new engines, and reinforced secondary armament. During World War II, Duilio saw limited service. While participating in the British attack on Taranto, the ship was hit by a torpedo but was quickly repaired. Until 1943, she escorted convoys, and after Italy's surrender, she moved to Malta and returned to her homeland in 1944. After the end of the war, she served as the flagship of the Italian Navy until 1949, and in 1956, she was decommissioned and scrapped in La Spezia.
Despite the fact that the battleship RN Duilio was built before the start of World War I, she is quite competitive in battles against World War II warships. The fact is that in the game, the RN Duilio is a version that has undergone extensive modernization, during which she received new, more powerful main caliber guns, as well as new auxiliary armament, including AA guns. Let's take a closer look.
The RN Duilio's main armament consists of ten 320 mm guns in four turrets. The ship can penetrate the armor of most battleships at maximum range. The secondary armament consists of twelve 135 mm guns with excellent rate of fire. The anti-aircraft artillery, the weak point of most pre-war designs, deserves special mention. The 1937 modernization turned the RN Duilio into a real floating anti-aircraft battery: 90 mm guns with remote-detonated shells began firing at aircraft at long ranges, while aircraft that got closer to the battleship came under fire from numerous 37 mm anti-aircraft guns.
The protection of the RN Duilio can be described as transitional from a heavy cruiser to a battleship. The ship is most comfortable in battle against cruisers, but it is advisable to keep at a distance from other battleships. The Duilio's maneuverability roughly matches that of wartime battleships, and it significantly outperforms early dreadnoughts in terms of speed.
The main advantages of the Italian ship are its excellent main caliber guns and powerful anti-aircraft artillery. The RN Duilio is a classic team player, able to both reinforce a group of battleships and become the main force in a cruiser squadron.
The development of the J7W1 Shinden began in 1944 as a response to massive raids by American B-29 Superfortresses. To design the interceptor, Kyūshū engineers decided to use an innovative “duck” aerodynamic configuration with front-mounted elevators and a push-type propeller. The first prototype, assembled in 1945, was equipped with an 18-cylinder Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine with a power output of 2,130 hp, which rotated a six-bladed propeller through a long shaft. However, tests revealed serious problems with thrust, which made control extremely difficult even for experienced pilots. Before Japan's surrender, only two prototypes were built, which made several short flights. The second prototype was planned to be equipped with a jet engine, but it was never completed. Later, this prototype was captured by the Americans for study and is currently on exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum in the United States.
The J7W1 Shinden was created to quickly intercept American Superfortresses at high altitudes, and altitude is its forte! This strange-looking aircraft is distinguished by its high climb rate. Its specially designed engine reaches its full potential in terms of speed at high altitudes. The exotic aerodynamic design of the J7W1 imposes certain limitations on horizontal maneuverability, but allows it to efficiently conserve energy when climbing out of a dive. It allows for sharp maneuvers around the roll, pitch, and yaw axes, making the Shinden an exceptional choice for boom-and-zoom tactics!
As an interceptor of huge strategic bombers, the J7W1 had to shoot them down as quickly as possible and at long ranges. For this reason, the fighter was equipped with the most powerful armament possible, consisting of four 30 mm cannons, albeit with a relatively small ammo load of 240 rounds. A short burst from this battery destroys any fighter and literally tears pieces of fuselage and wings off the largest bombers. Additionally, up to four small 60-kg bombs can be suspended on the fighter and its powerful forward-firing weapons can be used for assault. However, at low altitudes, the speed of the J7W1 is not so impressive, and there is a risk of getting caught up in a long maneuvering battle.
Gain altitude, strike, climb, repeat — that's the winning tactic for one of the most bizarre but effective fighters of World War II!
